다음을 기약하다 (제의·초대 등을 거절하면서 다음번에는 받아들이겠다는 뜻으로 하는 말) 

 

ex)

‘Are you coming for a drink?’ ‘Can I take a rain check?—I must get this finished tonight.’

“한잔하러 오시겠어요?” “다음을 기약해도 될까요? 오늘밤에 이 일을 끝마쳐야 해서요.”

 

 

 

used to tell someone that you cannot accept an invitation now, but would like to do so at a later time

지금은 초대를 수락할 수 없지만 나중에 수락하고 싶다고 누군가에게 말할때 사용

 

ex)

Mind if I take a rain check on that drink? I have to work late tonight.

다음을 기약해도 될까요? 오늘 밤 늦게까지 일해야 해서요.

 

 

 

to refuse an offer or invitation politely, or say that you would like to accept it, but at a different time

제안이나 초대를 정중하게 거절하거나, 수락하고 싶지만 다른 시간에 수락하겠다고 말하는 것

 

ex)

She says she'd like to take a rain check on it and do it in May.

그녀는 다음으로 미뤄서 5월에 하고 싶다고 말합니다.

 

 

 

used to say that you will do something in the future but not now

어떤 것을 지금이 아니라 나중에 할 거라고 말할 때 사용

 

ex)

‘Care for a drink?’ ‘I’ll take a rain check, thanks.’

"한 잔 할래요?" "다음을 기약할게요. 고마워요."
