If you mess around or mess about, you spend time doing things without any particular purpose or without achieving anything.

'mess around' 하거나 'mess about' 하면 특별한 목적 없이, 아무것도 달성하지 못한 채 일을 하며 시간을 보내는 것

 

ex)

We were just messing around, playing with paint.
