ex)

The police spent the day poking around in his office but found nothing.

경찰이 그의 사무실을 뒤지며 그 날을 보냈지만 아무것도 찾지 못했다.

 

 

 

1. to search for something by moving things around, usually not in a very careful or organized way

일반적으로 매우 조심스럽거나 조직적인 방식이 아닌 물건을 이리저리 움직여서 무언가를 찾다

 

ex)

I was poking around in the drawer, looking for the key, when I found this!

열쇠를 찾으려고 서랍 안을 뒤적거리다가 이걸 발견했어요!

 

 

2. to go into different files on a computer, places on the internet, etc. usually not in a very careful or organized way

일반적으로 매우 조심스럽거나 조직적이지 않은 방법으로 컴퓨터, 인터넷 등의 여러 파일에 들어가다

 

ex)

Poking around in my registry makes me nervous because I might click and delete the wrong file.

레지스트리를 뒤져보면 잘못된 파일을 클릭해서 삭제할 수도 있기 때문에 불안해집니다.

 

 

 

If you 'poke around' or 'poke about' for something, you search for it, usually by moving lots of objects around.

무언가를 'poke around' 또는 'poke about'하는 경우, 일반적으로 많은 물체를 주위로 움직여서 검색하는 것

 

ex)

Poking around the cellar I found a stash of tomato sauce.

지하저장고를 뒤지다가 토마토 소스가 숨겨져 있는 것을 발견했습니다.

 

 

 

1. to look for something, especially by moving a lot of things around

특히 많은 것을 옮기면서  무언가를 찾다

 

ex)

James began poking about in the cupboard, looking for the sugar.

제임스는 설탕을 찾기 위해 찬장 안을 이리저리 뒤지기 시작했습니다.

 

 

2. to try to find out information about other people’s private lives, business etc, in a way that annoys them

다른 사람을 괴롭히는 방식으로 다른 사람의 사생활, 사업 등에 관한 정보를 알아내려고 노력하다

 

ex)

Stop poking around in my business!

내 일에 끼어들지 마세요!

 

 

3. to spend time in shops, markets etc looking at nothing in particular

상점, 시장 등에서 특별히 아무것도 보지 않고 시간을 보내다

 

ex)

I spent Sunday afternoon poking around an old bookshop.

나는 일요일 오후에 오래된 서점을 둘러보며 시간을 보냈습니다.
